The Great Days Golf 2023 season got underway at Radyr Golf Club, Cardiff on Thursday 16th March with the Six Nations Finale event. Twenty two teams of 4 withstood the inclement Welsh weather to embark on a shotgun start in tough conditions. The day was supported by Premium Partner company and Headline Sponsor Evergreen, the industrial packaging specialists owned by Colin Griffiths.
There were many team and individual prizes on offer courtesy of GDG’s Prize Partner Srixon with event holes across the course. There was a Beat The Pro challenge where golfers tried to get nearer to the pin on the 14th hole than LPGA golfer Hannah Bowen. On the Par Three 3rd Hole, GDG’s very own Mike ‘Captain Pirate’ based himself for a Beat The Pirate competition where golfers donated in support of Mike’s tournament season in the European Disability Golf Association tour.
After receiving their Gift bags and taking in bacon rolls and coffee the golfers received a briefing from GDG staff and host for the day – actor and sports commentator Rhys Ap William.
Despite the weather a lot of good scores were recorded and the competition scoring was made far easier with the use of scoring devices supplied by GDG’s new scoring partner
GD Score where golfers could check their live positions through their round on both the individual and team leaderboards.
Following the golf Radyr GC provided a hearty well-earned hot meal and Rhys Ap William led an entertaining Six Nations Q&A with a virtual BBC Wales Scrum V panel of dual code legend Jonathan Davies, 81 times capped Wales star James Hook and former Ospreys and Wales coach now TV Analyst Sean Holley.
All of the action from the day was captured by Buffoon Film & Media and Riley Sports Photography.
